healthlab Salzburg nominated for the Healing Architecture Award 2026
We are delighted that healthlab Salzburg has been nominated for the Healing Architecture Award 2026 of Callwey Verlag.
The project came about in close collaboration between Studio Eliste and architect Nico Weiss of Studio Weiss – with the shared ambition of designing a medical space that does not feel purely functional but puts people at its centre.
Because rooms in which health is negotiated directly influence how we feel: whether we can arrive, whether we feel safe and well looked after, and whether an atmosphere of calm rather than tension emerges.

A different view of medical spaces
In designing healthlab we deliberately wanted to move away from the classic aesthetic of medical facilities. Instead of cool, purely functional rooms, a bright and calm environment emerged, with a clear architectural structure, warm materials and carefully placed accents of colour.
The curved lines of the ceiling, the light timber slats and the gentle colour world accompany visitors through the rooms. The lighting concept was not understood as a purely technical element but as an essential part of the atmosphere.
The aim was a place that conveys professionalism and medical precision – and at the same time feels human, approachable and natural.
Architecture as part of well-being
Healing architecture asks what contribution spaces can make to physical and emotional health.
For us that does not mean making a medical environment look like a home. It means combining functional requirements with dignity, orientation, calm and beauty.
The nomination confirms a thought that shapes our work at Studio Eliste in an essential way: Good design is not only visible. It can be felt.
We thank Nico Weiss and Studio Weiss, our client and all project partners who realised healthlab together with us.
We are delighted about the recognition – and that the importance of design in healthcare is becoming increasingly visible.
