Sometimes the best things grow not from a perfect plan but from a feeling.

Sometimes the best things grow not from a perfect plan but from a feeling.
When I moved to Zurich, much was new: a new city, a new home, a new everyday life. I knew only a few people here and I knew I wanted to create a place where I would enjoy spending time myself. Opening an interior atelier was the obvious thought, but my gut would not let go – it longed for a place for more everyday encounters, a place that is beautifully designed and at the same time motivates – to really good movement.

When my friend, the talented designer & architect Julia Körner in L.A., first introduced me to Reformer Pilates more than ten years ago, I was hooked at once – the apparatus brings a completely different kind of lightness to training, and moving on it is such a joy that you almost forget how demanding the exercises are. You feel supported in the most pleasant way, and the small-group setting with wonderful trainers keeps you motivated for the long run.
A Pilates studio, I thought, can be more than a beautiful place – it can be one that does you real good, inside out, so to speak. That is how Núeme came about.
Of course it was about movement from the very beginning. About Pilates, about strength, about the good feeling of arriving back in your own body. But for me Núeme was always more than a studio: it stood for a new era in which I trust my gut even more and allow myself a new sense of my body.
Núeme is our happy place in Zurich. I am immensely proud of our fabulous team of trainers – many have been with us since day one, and new talents keep joining. They make this space and the training what it is.
Núeme is also a place where I have been able to meet so many remarkable women. Women with very different stories, professions, backgrounds and lives. Some I see every week, with some a conversation starts between two classes, and other encounters have grown into friendships, ideas or new connections.
In a new city especially, that may be the most beautiful part of it: that a space can bring people together.
I believe in any case that the places we create do something to us. That atmosphere counts. That we sense whether we are welcome. And that a space can, at some point, become part of our lives.
That is exactly what Núeme has become for me: a place for movement, for small pauses in everyday life and for encounters with wonderful women – and a sign of the “new era” that Zurich means to me, and of the strength I can draw from Pilates for it.
